Simply the best business-class hotel I've ever stayed in.

With rooms designed for the business traveler -- rather than a leisure hotel room retrofitted for business uses -- guests enjoy free wifi, productive workspaces in the room, generous and well-placed electrical outlets, and free bottled (well you have to bottle it) water and coffee.

Guests also have free access to Net workstations. Kiosk check-in also available in the lobby.

A political action committee held a meet-and-greet for Edison (NJ) Mayor Jun Choi and Boston City Councilor Sam Yoon. Food was good, but I'll have to save a real review for another time since we didn't have a regular dining experience here.

My only caution is in finding this place. The address on my iPhone pointed to a vacant lot. I had to turn to Yelp to find out that the place was under the Macy's in the mall with the AMC theaters. You won't see any signage anywhere on the street or on the mall exterior.

Koji Sake Lounge

Koji Sake Lounge is my new number one spot for happy hour in San Jose.

We held a (H)API Hour (http://www.hapihour.org) here last night with about 60 guests to benefit South Bay First Thursdays (thanks, Kathy!).

Good location, affordable happy hour prices, food and great service all make Koji a terrific venue.

A number of other small details that make this place work. Music stays in the background. Lighting is dim, but not dark. Furniture layout allows numerous pathways to the bar. And it's right on a VTA light rail stop.

Met Mae here for a Sunday breakfast in early March. They serve breakfast buffet for less than $15, including coffee and juice. Standard fare: eggs, sausage, bacon, french toast. Friendly staff. I would return.

Sheraton Commander

The Sheraton Commander is a solid property within walking distance from Harvard. Service here is excellent, but not effusive: the staff is nice, prompt and competent. The hotel is renovated, so if you've stayed here before and were putt off by the building's age, try again.

Rachanee and I spent the final 25 minutes of 2007 here with an inebriated, but friendly, mixed crowd of young and old, Japanese and haole. The place is a dive and proud of it.

At 11:58 p.m., the manager eagerly passed around noise makers and led the crowd in a countdown to the new year. There was about 90 seconds of congratulatory kisses, handshakes and hugs. And then with the formalities over, everything was back to normal with one lush after another belting away their favorite karaoke tune.

I love this place.
