Simply the best business-class hotel I've ever stayed in.

With rooms designed for the business traveler -- rather than a leisure hotel room retrofitted for business uses -- guests enjoy free wifi, productive workspaces in the room, generous and well-placed electrical outlets, and free bottled (well you have to bottle it) water and coffee.

Guests also have free access to Net workstations.  Kiosk check-in also available in the lobby.

I stayed at the Club Quarters on my last trip to Chicago.  This hotel is certainly not somewhere that I would stay if I were on vacation or trying to impress a lady friend.  But, my trip had two purposes:  a job interview on W Monroe and several tours of potential apartments.  For these two purposes, this place was perfectly suited.

The rooms, as previously stated many times, are quite small.  But, I spent about 12 hours over the weekend in my room.  11 of them were sleeping.  So, I didn't mind the size.  No tub.  But, I can't remember the last time I used the tub in my own home.  What do I care if there is a tub?  There was some construction going on in the hotel.  But, I never heard anything.  The only mild issue I had was with the temporary doors they have set up at the entrance.  Those thing did not like to cooperate when the wind was blowing.  It took me three times to open the door long enough to slip my luggage inside!  My room had a fridge which I stocked with some fruit  and water from the 7-11 across the street for breakfast.  Other than that, it was clean and my alarm clock worked.   I woke up, walked to my job interview, found the L (close by too), looked at apartments, etc.  

If I were on vacation, this aint the place.  But, I wouldn't have booked this place if I were on vacation.  I was there for business.  So, it worked out well.  Plus, I got my job!

I don't understand the whole "private club" thing about this hotel.  You need to be a club member to book a reservation directly with the hotel, but you can book online with a third party booking agent, like hotels.com, without being a member.  I think it's a marketing ploy.  They allow any old schlub to get a reservation there but call it a "private hotel" so that the schlub thinks he's getting something for nothing and won't notice what a crappy hotel this is.

I had several major problems with staying here:

- My room in a hostel in El Salvador was bigger than my room at Club Quarters.  Seriously, I was shocked when I got to my room.  It's smaller than most dorm rooms.

- The TV was tiny and located on the other side of the room.  I know, the room was tiny but even so, I had to squint to see the TV.  When you're staying in a hotel for six days you really want a good TV.

- The walls are like paper.  I could clearly hear the lady in the room next to me talk to her husband on the phone.  She was mad at him because he bought their daughter some expensive clothes without consulting her first; she got over it quickly and couldn't wait to get back home to have sex with him.  She went to Victoria's Secret in Chicago, but she won't tell him what she bought.  He will have to wait.

- The fitness center was small and was missing some fitness center basics, like cable machines, a TV and mats.

- It's the little things too... no continental breakfast, no free newspaper, coffee tasted like filtered dirt.

The things I liked: staff was helpful and the price was cheap.

All in all, I would never ever stay here again.  Every day, I was just pissed off that I was at this crappy hotel.

Its all about value. For $66-$85, depending on when you stay, you get a place to sleep, a clean shower, a desk, and one of the best locations in Chicago.

Now that I've stayed there a few times, I can see more it its faults. When I complained, on two different stays, that the shower hose was leaking, nothing was done to repair it. On another stay, their was a film of cleaining solution on the bathroom counter, and the odor from a freshly shampood rug overwhelmed the room.

If you are spending many waking hours in the hotel, this place isn't for you; if you just need a clean place to rest your head for the night, Club Quarters is your decent choice.

For a 20-something travelers like me and my travel partner, the things that made this place rock were:

1. the affordable price. Being that we both recently graduated from college earlier this year, we didn't want to stay at a motel, and this vacation was a bit last minute, this was the best that we could've done. Thank goodness for my alumni association for helping me have access to this hotel.
2. a comfortable bed
3. something smack dab in Chicago where restaurants and all the other tourist-y happenings were only a short walk away.

And most importantly,

4. An internet connection, so we could access and read reviews from Chicago Yelpers. Yes, I love yelp so much that I take it with me on vacation.

This place was perfect for us since we didn't really stay much in the hotel. The bed served its purposes, the internet connection was very helpful in helping both of us find places to go when we didn't know anyone in town, and while there wasn't a bathtub, the shower stall was enough to get us both fresh and clean, especially from all the humidity that us Los Angelinos can't comprehend.

There's complimentary bottled water available, which is helpful if you're going out on a long day of a tourist adventure in Chicago. There's also a help-yourself-to-the-amenities-you-want closet that you might have to open two to three doors before you can find it.

I can understand how this hotel wouldn't be a place to have a family stay here because the rooms aren't on the super duper roomy side, but this would be perfect for not only solo travelers (as the other reviewers mentioned), but also low key couples.

Clean, yes. Good prices, decent accomodations, especially for business travelers. Some of the rooms have a great view of Wacker. Staff is very friendly and helpful.

My praise ends there. When I stayed, I was given two very uncomfortable twin beds despite requesting a double (they had overbooked and run out); the room was rather small; there was no tub--only a shower; the walls were thin; and the elevator was as quick to arrive and deliver you to your floor as the Pleistocene was long.

And yes, this is a very spoiled, girly quibble, but the linens were ugly and of poor, synthetic fiber quality.

What can I say? I like my luxe.

Gotta say, I love the heck out of this hotel.  

It's shiny clean, very comfortable despite the minimalist rooms.   Club Quarters are meant to be small boutique hotels that accomodate one or two people max to a room.   If you are expecting more, mayhaps you didn't do your homework.   (Don't complain that it's small... it's supposed to be small!  It was built in the 20s, remember?  Humans didn't need as much room back then.  We didn't have McMansions or The bleedin' Cheesecake Factory in the '20s either, dontcha know...)  

So yeah, do not bring your kids here.   But if it's just you traveling on business, go for it.

Think about it:  What, as a business traveler, do you need?  

1) Clean, super-comfy bed  [Check!]
2) Quiet, clean room with an ergonomically-designed desk / lighting [Check!]
3) Speedy internet access [Check! They have both wired and wireless]
4) Friendly, knowledgeable staff [Checkity-check-check!]
5) Good rates [Check!]
6) Easy to get a cab [Check!]
7) Lots of free coffee that doesn't suck [Check!]
8) TeeVee, with lots o' cable channels [Check!]
9) Mini-fridge and microwave [Check!  Make sure you request it upon arrival, though]
10) Restaurants within walking / delivery distance [Check!]
11) Iron, extra coffee, extra toiletries [In a communal hall closet, which is not at all inconvenient or weird... Check!]

The beautiful view of the city / river doesn't hurt, either.

I love the understated art deco styling (yay, marble entryway!), and the comfy "living room" area behind the check-in desk are good for both people-watching and putting your feet up next to the fireplace.  Not gaudy, just inviting and good.

I was super-happy at this place.  Granted, if I was traveling with family, there's no way it would have worked.  But as a busy business traveler who likes comfy things, this place rocks.  I won't stay anywhere else.

Again, think solo business travel.  Do not bring your kids or harem here.

The hotel rooms here are very well priced and very clean and modern. However, it was a bit small room (200sq ft or less) but perfect for the traveler that doesn't stay in the room very often. The front desk was very helpful in pointing out places to eat and sites to see. We had a room that overlooked the river and was about 12 stories up and so the view was awesome. This location was perfect to walk a few blocks to the magnificent mile,and there was a breakfast and coffee shop right next door, great for people watching!

Club Quarters is the Ford Escort of Chicago hotels: bed, desk, bathroom & tv. That' it. Seriously - 100% Economy.

Luxuries like
1.) an iron
2.) a bottle opener
3.) a dresser/bureau
are available
1.) in a closet down the hall
2.) at the end of a three hour quest (warning: involves dragon slaying)
3.) not at all

If you have an abundance of free time to:
* scramble about locating the necessities of this life
* screw around with the Club Quarters' staff (who appear and act as if they've been working for 72 hours without food or sleep)

you just might find a bargain here.

Pretty good place to spend the night. Nothing extravagant and i would say this is not my first choice. Room was pretty tiny and while in downtown chicago large rooms are hard find, for the price i paid for my room it should have been a little bigger.

A very decent Hotwire result.

The hotel is clean, on a nice block, has great views on the north side, and has well-made bed linens. Beyond that, some folks will probably complain about the IKEA/shoebox design, but I found it functional for my needs. I didn't get to see a room with two beds, but maybe they have a different layout.

There was no bath tub in my room, just a shower area. I forgot my toothpaste and was not charged for the little travel size one they brought to my room upon request. The TV had decent cable (mmmm, food network and bravo), the pillows were perfect, the room didn't feel sleazy, and they have room service from the Italian cafe next door. Works for me.

I really liked The Club Quarters.

Yes, the rooms are small, but they are clean, well-kept and even a bit on the stylish side. Nice showers (no bathtubs, but that wasn't a problem for me) and a good custodial staff.

The price wasn't too bad and the location is killer. My room had no view, but the friend I was traveling with had a beautiful view of the river, so I guess that comes down to luck of the draw. I would stay here again, and probably will the next time I go to Chicago.

A bit on the small side and if you're not looking carefully, it's easy to walk/drive right past it.  This is also the hotel chain incorporated with my california college alumni association, as well.  IT's also the same hotel that is the preferred one of my company so we get great company rates, too.  The hotel itself is on the river directly opposite the Chigago Sun-Times Building - when you're booking ask for a north facing window if you can for nicest views. If you're getting the "El" from O'Hare you need to get off at "Clark". The hotel is about a 200 meter walk from there.  Great value for the cheap price - especially if you can get a corporate discount!

Rooms overlooking the river are very nice, and room service from the restaurant next door is convenient.  Small, efficient rooms (no bathtub) offer just what we needed.  Would have liked wifi rather than plugged internet service, though.  And the bell service was awful, though not the bellhop's fault.  We arrived with a baby and rather than getting a cart for our bags, the bellhop had us carry our bags while he carried a couple.  And the SAME thing upon our departure.  The worst bell service ever.  The bellhop was perfectly nice, but I think he was overworked and the hotel had only one luggage cart which was always in use elsewhere, apparently.  We were going to stay here again (a week or so after our initial stay), but cancelled the reservation to stay somewhere else...where we could get real help with our luggage.  If you do stay, be careful of the parking situation.  They charged us the full rate instead of the discounted rate and it took 3 months to get a refund.
