Review of banquet only

went here for a fundraiser for Otto Lee for Santa Clara Supervisor District 3

yum! perhaps it was because I hadn't had a chinese banquet in soo long
but I was happy with the food!

dessert was coconut soup with tapioca (the first time my father ever finished b/c the soup wasn't crazy thick) and buns with sweet beans. cute looking and my kid liked it

The food is great here....but the parking sucks.
We went to a wedding reception here.
Abalone and sea cucumber with bok choy.
Lobster
Shark fin soup
Dang...I'm getting hungry just thinking about the food again.
This is a nice place to go for a family gathering.
They have small private rooms for intimate gatherings and a large area in the back for 300+ plus guest.

Great Dim Sum (just dimsum review, not dinner)

You can get dim sum at many places in the Bay Area but you will find is that 1) you have to be there by 11:30 or you are guaranteed to wait for a table, especially if you have a large party

2) the restaurant will be noisy, ambiance, romance... all that stuff doesn't really exist here.  You are here to eat and chat with your friends.  And boy Asian people like to talk very loud...

3)  There are some things that taste good but you have no idea what is in it.You may just have to accept that and eat it and see if you like it

4) dim sum != chicken feet.  There are lots of other dishes you can try

5) it's not about big portions, dim sum is big on taste

So once you have grasped these basics... then we can discuss the dim sum at Dynasty.

Dynasty puts out these chairs outside on the weekends. If your party arrives too late then you can just put you name on the waiting list and wait by the chairs.

The tea.... black tea is so boring.. I get the Chrysanthemum tea with pur-eh.  But you can order jasmine too.

So dim sum wise, Dynasty does a great job.  Lots of dishes and servers bringing you tea.  The ladies will push around the dim sum cart and try to tell you what the items are.  You order, they stamp your card.. you pay at the end by waving around your ticket... then someone comes and calculates the total and you pay for your meal.

This is not a romantic place to bring a first date.  Bring an old friend to catch up... bring your family... if you don't want to hear your family nag or asking you embarrassing questions, the rest of the crowd will be just loud enough so that you can't hear what's going on.  The restaurant will be noisy, loud, crowded, and chaotic.  This is just how it works.

Dynasty is a great place for dim sum, but you have to come early. This place gets extremely crowded and they won't have as many dishes towards the end. Having said that, I love this place! I always come here with my family because some of the other places in the area are little pricier and even more packed.
When I ate here two days ago, the service was fast and we didn't have to order anything. Its like they were reading our minds. The service is about what you would expect from a Chinese restaurant. They're fast, but not overly friendly.

Came here as a guest for a wedding banquet.

Legitimate Cantonese style banquet food. Pretty high quality, usually trumping the oft well known ABC Seafood in Milpitas, but some dishes may not reach upper echelon of goodness/flavor like Koi Garden/Koi Palace.

Dishes we had as part of the banquet:
Ping pan (cold cuts - 5 selections) - Decent quality, roast pork skin was crispy and good. Jellyfish was excellent in this group of cold dishes as well. The others were just ok.

Braised shark's fin with chicken - Also decent. Slightly underflavored in the broth, but chicken flavor made up for it.

Walnut prawns - Good, distinct shrimp flavor within. Batter was very light covering the shrimp, and very light amount of mayo. Some other places may be guilty of overdoing the batter and mayo. The walnuts were not exactly sweet enough, but it's ok.

Seafood medley - Came with scallops, squid, chicken, and snowpeas. Quite good, chicken was very tender (but I'm a bit afraid of overtenderizing). Squid was not cross-cut into pineapple like shapes as you would think most places would do, but on the large scale of the dinner, I doubt they would have time. Scallops tasted good as well, but with large scallops.

Crispy chicken with Garlic/Honey glaze - Really surprising. Most places make this extremely dry, and inedible. The chicken breast was so juicy and excellent! I had to make sure that I looked back at the chicken I was eating was not undercooked. It was perfectly done. Garlic was a bit strong, but can be easily scraped off.

Abalone with Shiitake and Choi Sum - Only decent, the abalone was a bit rubbery (I believe reconstituted dried). But extravagant. The saucing on the shiitake and choi sum was not savory enough. Koi Garden's version is much better.

Lobster with Vermicelli - Eh, not as good as the salt-pepper fry version, or the braised version in my opinion. Lobster quality was decent, but a bit on the small side, where you'd have to work for every piece. The soup/sauce for the vermicelli were the sauces from the head, which actually gave it almost a too salty flavor.

Smoked baked sea bass - I'm really not a 100% fan of this dish, even though it's their signature. It's done really well, fish is flaky and juicy. However, there's this weird smoked flavor that I'm not really a fan of. It's very similar to a gindara kasuzuke (sake marination). Or maybe I was already too full at that point, and couldn't objectively analyze the dish.

Fried rice - I still have a take out box full of this. I'll let you know after I eat it for leftover dinner. :)

Desserts were a bit of a miss. The red bean soup failed to deliver, though the jian dui (sesame covered fried mochi balls with bean paste in middle) was very surprising and good. They were really hot (probably just fried) and not leftovers from the morning dim sum service. Also, thank god for wedding cake.

Strangely, to go against the crowd, service was an absolute excellent surprise. Even during a busy wedding banquet, with TWO weddings going on, Dynasty was staffed enough to have excellent service for all tables.

We got dishes in a timely manner, all at a good hot temperature, we were served multiple pieces of cake through multiple go-rounds by the waitstaff, and we got plates changed immediately and boxes delivered. How banquet style restaurants should be operated.

Maybe the minuses are the cleanliness (surprise?). The whole restaurant is clean, but actually, if you take a look under the lazy susan, you might see leftovers from dim sum service from the morning. That was my case, where I saw a funky piece of tripe left over. Maybe I wouldn't be too upset if this was a hole-in-the-wall, but this is a high end banquet place. Hmm.

4.5 stars - solid food that delivers with excellent service. A very big congratulations and thank you to Simon W. (yelper, but does not write a lot), who's wedding banquet this was.

The first time I came here I thought the service was horrible.  I came towards the later part for dim sum. They didn't have anything at all and everything we ordered they was out.  I was thinking well, if a customer request the item, should you not make more then? So we barely ate.

I thought why not give this place a try again. I came here last Friday for lunch. To my surprise it was not busy at all. There was just a few tables and the place was not pack.  We order the usual items and they came out quick. The food was alright, I had better. It was alright for the price but honestly you could have gotten better food at other places in the area.

This review is for our engagement dinner in one of the private rooms:

I was a bit nervous about having our engagement dinner here. I mean, our families were going to meet for the first time and I felt like it had to be perfect. Dynasty, along with my sister's persistence, made sure that everything ran smoothly. We booked the place a month in advanced. Then, we came back for dim sum one day, and Jimmy helped us choose our exact room. We decided to go with room 8 since we were making it an 8 day (08/08/08 @ 8pm). He said we could call him at a later date to confirm the menu. We decided to show up in person, and went with the Harmony Fortune package. We also added extra Shark's Fin soup, Peking Duck and Honey Walnut Prawns.

On the day of, my bro and I swung by and dropped off a case of sparking and the cake. They said to leave the items on one of the tables, so I was uncertain of whether the goods would be nice and chilled when we arrived. Fortunately for us, everything was just perfect. Since dinner didn't start until 8p and everyone arrived early, we had the cake first. Service was great!

As for the menu. There wasn't a dish that disappointed. My dad said he didn't like the Peking Duck, but it was still good. I know we've had better, but I really enjoyed it. The shrimped paste wrapped scallops were divine. And the egg white and crab dish was better than it looked! Overall, the menu did bring about culinary harmony.

It's been awhile since I came here, and the crowds have definitely died down. At 12:30pm on a Sunday, there's no wait!

Overall, I've had better quality and cheaper dim-sum than this place. Of the 10-11 dishes we ordered, only one of them was a 'small' item. Dishes that are normally a 'small' at other places, they are charging as 'medium' and 'large' items. Service was like any typical chinese restaurants, you pay for the food, not service! But the food was not up to par here. Dessert was mediocre, the dan-tart was not the flaky pastry that I usually get, it's the hard crusted shell.

Don't think I'll come back anytime soon with all the other competition nearby.

I came here for dinner once.  We ordered some dishes, and when it came out, we inquired about why we weren't brought any white rice.  We were promptly informed that they had run out of rice.  Seriously?!?  What kind of Chinese restaurant runs out of rice?!?  It shouldn't be too difficult:  when you only have 3 vats of rice left, you make 10 more vats.  Especially for a restaurant this huge!  This wasn't even during the rice shortage...  Try eating Chinese food without rice; it's sooooo not the same!

I've also eaten here another time or two recently for wedding(s), which was okay, but I just can't get over the amusement of a huge Chinese banquet hall running out of rice on a normal night!

I give it a 3.5 for Dim Sum.  The venue is really large, but I don't think the taste was as refined as I'd like.

I also went for a banquet and thought it was respectable but not super memorable (but maybe it was just the dishes ordered).

Im adding a star based on the dinner I just had.  I took my mom here for her birthday because she doesn't like taking risks in trying new places and she thought that it would be expensive, which it is but well worth it.

Although it was weird eating in the middle of a mall because the main restaurant was hosting a wedding, the service was friendly and efficient, and the food came out delicious.  We ordered the crab meat and fish maw soup, walnut shrimp, stir fried beef with scallops, and yukzi tofu.  Im salivating as I write my review...

Im wondering when I will come back here again for dinner...most likely sooner than later...

5 stars for the lunchtime dimsum - the quality is as good as it gets in the bay area, and the prices are extremely reasonable.

3 stars for the dinner entrees - most dishes are overpriced and oily/salty as fuck. To eat well, you need to order the baller dishes - high-end seafood, steamed fish, and the like. The general, conservative fare is not very satisfying here, and it will still cost you a decent amount.

The same ratings hold for Joy Luck around the corner, except Dynasty is probably a little cheaper. Unless you have a large, arranged party, it is best to choose between the two based on the amount of customers being served. Service for small, family-sized groups goes to shit at both these places during peak hours, so it's something to watch out for.

I would give this place a 2.5-star rating if I could.  I've experienced better prices, but the food itself was pretty delicious.  "A-OK" on the food.  My 11 friends and I were in search of sustenance prior to the much anticipated screening of The Dark Knight last Friday (awesome, by the way), and TGI Friday's couldn't accommodate.  Boo them.  Thus, as a last-minute scramble maneuver, I called up Dynasty for a table.

It's ridiculous how many mini-banquet rooms they had in that place.  It's a veritable beehive of a restaurant with many small banquet rooms partitioned out to offer privacy to private parties.  There was a huge banquet hall in the back, too.  They must do brisk business in Chinese receptions.

We were ushered into one of the banquet rooms.  I must admit, it was pretty nice to have a room and waiter to ourselves.  We ordered a banquet menu, changing out some of the items for vegetarian ones since we had a vegetarian amongst us.  In the end, each person owed $30 (with tax and tip included).  In retrospect, I guess that's not too bad of a price for a banquet meal consisting of lobster, giant prawns, and other meat, but since we had switched out a couple of the meat dishes for vegetarian, I guess I was hoping they'd discount it or something.  Plus, I think we were all expecting to spend at most $20 each for dinner that night, so the $30 was an unpleasant surprise.

Either way, at least my curiosity about Dynasty was met.  I'd never been before and had been wanting to try it out.  Not bad, but I think I'd still pick another spot, given the options.

This is a sister shop with the Dynasty on Story road. But IMO, their sibling has got better dim sum. Theirs for me is a little too salty. Also, they are on the pricy side. The duck tongue however is a nice touch although it is still quite salty. Lines can be long. Parking is easy to find but not necessarily near by the place.

Holy Moley this place is humongous!

My cousin's wedding reception was in the back room last weekend and I was impressed that the restaurant offered an entire vegetarian menu - mad props to my cousin(s) for giving us that option. The service was good and as far as Chinese restaurants go, this place is really nice.

Pretty consistent dim sum and usually a short wait (~10 minutes or so).  When we don't want to wait around, we come here since the place is huge.  On average, there is a decent variety of food coming by, but a few times, we have been stuck in undesirable locations and have had hardly anything coming by.

3 stars off for the service.  I don't expect great service (it IS a chinese restaurant afterall..) but some semblance of it would be nice.  Tea takes a long time to get refilled and more than once, our teapot was given back to an adjacent table.  Water rarely gets refilled but thats no big surprise.  Finally, whenever we have a dearth of carts coming by, we order off the menu.  At leaset 3 times, the order has somehow gotten lost or screwed up.  I'm not blaming the waitresses and waiters since they are all working really hard and doing their best.  I think that there's just not enough staff to handle the volume.

So even with all this, we continue to come back..mainly because we don't want to wait and there is usually capacity here.  Oh well.

I like how airy and spacious the place is.  Even their cute private rooms look like a great place to have a party.  I came here recently for a wedding reception and the food was just ok.  Out of the 10 courses, I enjoyed 4.  I had only been here for dim sum before, so I didn't know what to expect.  The best dish of the night was the honey walnut prawns.  That's one of my favorite Chinese dishes and they totally delivered.  Kudos for having a humongous space - it didn't seem like there were 500 people in the main hall.

Note to people who want to have a banquet here: OPEN BAR makes everything better!

Been here twice for 2 wedding banquets.  4 stars!

Here's what I remember (blame it on the Goose, Patron, and red wine)...
Waiters are not good with the English language.
Food was delicious.
Parking is plentiful.
Entrance is a bit hard to find (I snuck in through a side door).
Far from Dublin.  50 min drive.

We came here tonight with my MIL after seeing a movie at Valco. We were in the mood for Chinese and it sounded good. I love how big and bright it is in there and you don't feel too cramped next to your neighbor. There was a birthday party and a wedding going on tonight so there was a lot of people, but not too crowded at 8pm. The service was friendly and polite and it was cool to see young people working there with cool hair (Ha! Ha!) We were waited on immediately and served quickly. We ordered the dinner special for $68. We got the following:

--some sort of beef soup with red bean (tasty and refreshing!)
--lettuce wraps (okay...these are not really Chinese but they were yummy!)
--vegetable dish (bok choy, broccoli with garlic--it was good)
--salt and pepper prawns (only okay for me--super greasy!)
--prawns and scallops Thai basil style (yum spicy--the prawns were overcooked and didn't taste fresh to me)

Overall a decent meal but greasy. We want to go back and try different dishes maybe next time.

For dim sum, expect to pay about $60 or more (tip included) for a semi-hungry party of four. I don't know if that's considered high or normal on the dim sum scale, but that price bummed me out. I've paid almost half that for the same amount of dumplings 'n stuff elsewhere. You can get 10 In-N-Out meals with $60...I'm crying now....

We filled out the dumpling checklist as well as taking from the carts, but after a while the carts were ignoring us to target and favor other tables. On the plus side, the shumai were plump and the BBQ pork slices were addicting.

Dynasty is in Ye Olde Vallco/Cupertino Square. So, why end your day with a $60 dim sum bill? Keep going with overpriced bowling, rip-off movie snacks, and goofy lingerie!

I came here during the week on a business lunch, so I may not have seen Dynasty in the best light.

I don't know that many Dim Sum restaurants in this area so I am comparing it to Joy Luck in Cupertino village:

- Valco mall parking, not too bad
- Having to walk through Macy's to get here, very odd
- the restaurant was large but looked kind of dusty/dirty
- I am used to dim sum ladies coming around with carts.  There is some of that here, but apparently you have to order first - you can't just point like I am used to.  That took a while to figure out.  Since my colleagues were Asian, I think the waiters figured we knew what to do.  We didn't.
- Food was a little more expensive than Joy Luck, but quality was ok.  I liked the garlic eggplant, even though it was really oily.

Overall, I prefer Joy Luck for the convinience and price.

Excessively mediocre.

I went here for a tasting for my wedding.  Based upon the reviews of this place for chinese wedding banquets, I was hoping for something decent.  it's not.  it's ok at best.  The honey smoked sea bass was the best.  Everything else was just ok.  The lobster was bland, so was the crab.  The shark fin soup with crab was blah.  The shark fin soup with superior broth was better, but then again, it could have been the booze in it.

This place is a chinese wedding banquet factory.  There's plenty of room as well as many private rooms in the back.  I think I'll try something else for my wedding.

What's the #1 thing that you look out for when you go eat Dim Sum? The answer is how often the carts come around and also the variety that's on the floor.

This place really did piss me off. Half the place was filled and they only had 4 carts going around... 2 carts had the same s**t!!!! It's not even like we came late, we arrived at 11am on the weekend. The food we did get was good that's the only reason why I gave them the rating that they got. The managers definitely need to work on their floor awareness because it wasn't present. The carts had very bad routes. At one point during our meal, we didn't see a single cart pass us by for 10 minutes. TA-MA!

Whenever I think of the word Dynasty, I always think of Joan Collins (that was her right) with some bad polyester outfit, that is outlandish for the times and a horrendous shade of lipstick grazing her lips.

I was hungover on a Sunday, and my plans were rattled because after the five Bacardi and Diets (I am trying to find a drink with less sugar, but asparatame of Diet Coke can get you easily screwed over) the night before with a helping of McDonald's a la carte (I don't order value when I'm drunk) I was done.

We needed a place in Cupertino and since my aunt just came here from overseas, we were led to try Dynasty.

Dynasty is located in Cupertino, a town I'm surprisingly coming to hate because it can bore me to tears. But the actual restaurant was consistent and that was just it. The food flowed freely and the thing about dim sum is that your table can easily fill up if you aren't seeing straight. And then you won't know what's in front of you and lead your mouth on an adventure.

And that can be a good or bad thing depending entirely on your opinion of what goes in and out of your mouth.

Haha. Take that as you want it.

No complaints about the dim sum, it was average. The pork buns I had were a bit greasy, but the white pork buns I had were delicious. A thing they have going for them is that they actually know how to be nice to people here - the service is better than most Chinese places. And for a Sunday dealing with family, a hangover and barely being able to see with all the steam from those pots in your face... that can be a totally good thing.

I'm surprised there's not any better dim sum in the area, but this place works just fine.  It's not spectacular, but it's not below mediocre.  I can eat some decent dim sum here and then head to strike and get wasted without having to worrying about my stomach bursting in flames after. So I guess I haven't much to complain about.

This is a dim sum only review.

Been here several times for dim sum...there are not very many options in the south bay with a wide selection of dim sum.

Dynasty offers the standard dim sum dishes (har gow, siu mai, etc) served without much fanfare.  It's okay if you have a craving for dim sum...but nothing to write home about.  Nothing unique or inventive (unlike Koi Palace in Daly City).

SPIFFY:
- Best dim sum in the Cupertino area.
- Quality regular food, especially seafood, for a reasonable price (roughly $12/dish for dinner).  In a recent meal I had mofo tofu, shrimp with peas, fried shrimp, a lovely seafood soup, broccoli beef, and chicken and black bean sauce.  Nothing was mind-blowing, but seafood is really easy to screw up and nothing here was bad.
- Compared to other weekend dim sum places, the wait here's reasonable.  Dynasty has tons of seating.
- Lots of staff so easy to flag someone down if you need more water or tea.
- Fro-Yo? is in the same complex in case you want some yogurt for dessert afterward.

UN-SPIFFY:
- Because of the super large dining rooms and high noise level, you feel like you're eating in a Costco.
- Non-existent waiting area with only a few chairs.  It's in Valco/Cupertino Square, which is essentially an abandoned mall, so there's nothing else to do while you're waiting.
- The staff isn't going to go out of their way to help.  You have to make the effort.
- Sucky parking.  You essentially have to park in the faraway mall parking structure and trudge all the way over.
- The restaurant is large, so for dim sum, you can get seated way out in the boonies where few carts come by.  This has happened to us a few times.

Dynasty isn't the best quality or the best value, but if you're looking for high quality dim sum or Chinese seafood in the South Bay, this is your place.

I came here for dim sum on Sunday morning.  I noticed the hostess started calling numbers at 11 am, so I'd recommend people to get there early.  I liked how there are many chairs outside for people to sit while they wait for their table.

I think the variety is pretty good.  Dynasty has the typical basic dishes, and some interesting ones I've never seen at other dim sum.  One dish that was different was red bean mochi covered in peanuts!  It was really tasty.

I noticed a lot of carts being pushed around the restaurant.  Sometimes the servers might miss your table depending on where you sit.  There were a few moments during dim sum when there were no carts in sight.

I wanted to try more dishes, but it came out when I was full.  I can't wait to go back to try the other dishes.

Located in Vallco on the "basement floor" next to Macy's, on weekends it can fill up fast so make sure to get there a bit early.

Don't go for anything besides the dim sum, that includes their banquet and dinner items, or anything that doesn't show its face up on a cart.

It's not the best in the world but perfectly decent if you're in south bay and the new parking for the mall makes it that much easier to spend more of your "pre-food" time standing in line versus scrounging for butt space for your car.

The items here are perfectly satisfactory if not gourmet. I love their dessert carts with the mango pudding (mong-guoh bow deen) despite the faint flavor to it. The shrimp dumplings (har-gow) are plump and spongy, constantly being made because they recognize it's a standard on any lunchtime table. The custard-filled pineapple buns are so airy and light we buy extra to take home each time. Actually, very time I've gone there's something new to try, and in that is my favorite part of this restaurant.

Besides the regular dumplings, like ha-gow, siu-mai, porridge, and all that, are seasonal offerings and mini-plates. Stir-fried noodles on small plates as if they were doing tapas-style. Sticky coconut and sugary cakes cut in slices and pan-fried in beaten eggs. It's those little things, those little tastes and flavors, that remind me of Hong Kong and my family and for that I give it 4 STARS.

It won't beat the finest, but it gives a good run on the average and definitely beats the cheapo crappy ones here and over there.

Solid 3 1/2 stars.

Clean food, plenty of servers, long line at front door... characteristic of a good chinese place.  There were alot of people wanting dimsum Sunday afternoon so we waiting nearly 30 minutes to get seated.  Once you sit down though the food keeps on coming.  None of the dishes were mindblowingly good but it was clean and there was this GIGANTIC lobster inside one of the fish tanks.

If you speak mandarin, you definitely have an advantage when eating here.

This place is good for Dim Sum only.  I love their mango pudding.  It gets really busy during the weekend for Dim Sum so come early or you'll expect to wait for a while.
I didn't like ordering stuff off of their menu.  Their menu items aren't that great.  I've also been here for weddings and the food is ok.
This is a big restaurant and they do have a lot of servers and staff, which is good because when you need something, they're there to help you.

A political action committee held a meet-and-greet for Edison (NJ) Mayor Jun Choi and Boston City Councilor Sam Yoon.  Food was good, but I'll have to save a real review for another time since we didn't have a regular dining experience here.

My only caution is in finding this place. The address on my iPhone pointed to a vacant lot.  I had to turn to Yelp to find out that the place was under the Macy's in the mall with the AMC theaters.  You won't see any signage anywhere on the street or on the mall exterior.

oh boy.  talk about horrible service.  i mean, i really don't expect much from chinese or korean restaurants.  i don't expect a smile or to have the server to ever come back to ask how we are doing after the food is on our table.  i expect that if we ask for water we won't get it until asked at least 2 more times.  but this place takes the cake.  i came her for dimsum with my sister and 4 year old nephew, who was pretty well behaved on this outing.  overall the servers were ok but it was this one particular worker.  he was one of the guys in the dark suits.  there were 2 and he was the one that was balding.  so basically baldy grabs our order sheet and rushes off without a word or even looking in our direction, but we stopped him because we had a pot of tea but no water for my nephew.  baldy walked away as if he didn't hear us and my sister stopped him to make sure he got our water.  he comes back 5 minutes later, and after helping 2 other tables, and finally brings water.  later on when our food arrives we asked him for a fork for my nephew.  this time he did stop to show that he heard us but made no reply and walked off.  again 5 min later he comes back with 3 forks and throws them on the table!  after this he completely ignored the area we were in.  the tables around us were also looking for help but had to flag down other servers on the other side of the restaurant.  my sister walked up to the front to pay and asked if the men in the suits were managers.  and they were.  which is a bummer, cuz now who do we make our complaints to?  oh well.  my one consolation is that i can come here to yelp and give this horrendous place 1 star.

but the food was quite good so if you don't care about being treated like crap and have utensils thrown at you ... i recommend this place!

only been here for dim sum, which was great.  excellent variety and very fresh.  service is decent, fairly typical for a dim sum place.  don't be fooled by the slightly over-the-top decor, the food is authentic dim sum.
